It’s a sad fact that these children probably didn’t have any time to actually be children they’ve always been training for some ‘higher purpose’. Firstly their training as Marleyan Warriors (which I estimate lasted at least five years), and then their years of training once they were within the walls. Failure isn’t an option because failure means death.Īdditionally, this means that BRA will have spent the majority of their lives training to fight. Is it any surprise that the Titan Trio behave like they can only return home once they succeed their mission? They have probably had this mantra drilled into them since the age of five years old. I’m thinking that the training might have involved such brutal activities that some of these children may have died and maybe the ones that failed never returned home at all. I think that it’s quite possible that every Eldian family with healthy children that fell into the required age range will have sent their children to become Marleyan Warriors… but what happened to the ones that didn’t succeed?įor some reason, I doubt they were easily sent back home if they failed. Can you imagine: practically every Eldian family sacrificing their children for a chance to live as “Honorary Marleyans”, but only if their child succeeded in Warrior training. Every Eldian child sent to become a Marleyan Warrior was NOT guaranteed to become a Warrior and inherit titan shifter abilities. Please allow this statement to settle in for a moment. “Only a small few will become those chosen warriors!” My fears were pretty much summarised in the panels above. However, the more I dwell on it, the more I realise just how dark and sinister the childhoods of Bertolt, Reiner, Annie, Marcel, and numerous other Eldian children really were. Yesterday I briefly touched upon how messed up the Titan Trio’s backstory is in this post, thanks to the new information provided in Chapter 86. On that day, Eren makes a promise to himself that he will do whatever it takes to eradicate every single titan off the face of the Earth, with the hope that one day, humanity will once again be able to live outside the walls without fear.SnK Chapter 86 - Thoughts on the Warrior Children But when the state of tranquility is suddenly shattered by the attack of a massive 60-meter titan, they quickly learn just how cruel the world can be. Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert are three young children who dream of experiencing all that the world has to offer, having grown up hearing stories of the wonders beyond the walls. In the present day, life within the walls has finally found peace, since the residents have not dealt with titans for many years. Unable to effectively combat the titans, mankind was forced to barricade themselves within large walls surrounding what may very well be humanity's last safe haven in the world. These mindless, towering giants, called "titans," proved to be an existential threat, as they preyed on whatever humans they could find in order to satisfy a seemingly unending appetite. Hundreds of years ago, horrifying creatures which resembled humans appeared. Under the blind belief that Eren still secretly harbors good intentions, Mikasa and the others enter the fray in an attempt to save their friend’s very soul. Reiner Braun uses his own powers in a desperate bid to hold off Eren’s own militaristic force, and his fellow Eldians-children Falco Grice and Gabi Braun-struggle to survive in the unfolding chaos.Įlsewhere, Eren’s childhood friends Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert remain imprisoned alongside Eren’s former Survey Corps companions, all disturbed by Eren’s monstrous transformation. Meanwhile, the long-feuding nations of Marley and Eldia utilize both soldiers and Titans in a brutal race to eliminate the other. Under the guidance of the Beast Titan, Zeke, Eren takes extreme measures to end the ancient conflict between Marley and Eldia-but his true intentions remain a mystery.ĭelving deep into his family’s past, Eren fights to control his own destiny. Turning against his former allies and enemies alike, Eren Yeager sets a disastrous plan in motion. When one of the walls is broken, permitting a bloodbath, one teenager, Eren, vows vengeance and the extermination of the Titan race. The last survivors of humanity take shelter behind massive walls in a planet destroyed by man-eating monsters known as Titans.
